Frugal Quilter

This is my finished Rouenneries quilt.  The pattern is from 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts by Evelyn Sloppy.  I added a border from Celebrer in McCalls Quilting Dec 2009.  The reason I didn't use the pattern from the magazine was because I thought the fabric was too pretty to cut up so much.

Holly Casey did the beautiful job of quilting this for me  The reason I am starting with this is because today I read Carrie Nelson's blog and in her instructions for her Lumiere de McGuffey she mentioned not liking those pesky pinked edges.  I am using my leftovers from this quilt and a Rural Jardin layer cake to piece Short Line.  I wanted to make the best use out of my layer cake but it is hard to get 4-2.5in strips from the square.  I try to be precise but those pinked edges just bother me.  So what I figured was this, cut your square in half using lines on your cutting mat.  Cut 2-2.5in strips measuring from the cut you just made.  Repeat w/contrasting fabric.  Match a strip w/2 straight edges w/a strip w/pinked edge.  Sew along side w/2 straight edges.

Then sew along opposite side following straight edge.

Unsew the seam w/2 straight edges.

Now you have a strip set w/pesky pinked edge trapped inside the seam allowance.  Nice straight cut edges on the outside.

Ooh la la!
